SGI Peace Activities

SGI's nuclear abolition efforts trace their roots back to 1957 when second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda (1900-58) made a public declaration calling for the elimination and prohibition of nuclear weapons. Since then, the SGI has been working to promote nuclear abolition and the creation of a culture of peace.

SGI participates in numerous conferences and symposiums, for example the "Overcoming Nuclear Dangers" conference in Rome on April 16-17, 2009.

In addition, SGI representatives attended the 2009 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Preparatory Committee from May 4-15 in New York.
