SGI-Thailand Receive Appreciation Certificate from Nagasaki Mayor | August 25, 2011
On August 25, Tomihisa Taue, Mayor of Nagasaki, conferred a Certificate of Appreciation on the Ministry of Culture of Thailand and Soka Gakkai Thailand for their Paper Cranes for Peace initiative. More than 57,000 paper cranes that had been made by Thai people were presented to Mayor Taue on July 31 at the Nagasaki Peace Forum, organized by Soka Gakkai Nagasaki youth. more…

The Soka Gakkai Chugoku Student Peace Committee released on August 4 the results of its 16th annual survey on young people's attitudes to peace and nuclear weapons in the Hiroshima region, in advance of the August 6 anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city. On July 31, Soka Gakkai Nagasaki youth members held a peace forum at the Peace Hall of the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, to deepen their vow to achieve a world without nuclear weapons. The theme was "From Nagasaki to the World! The Voices of Youth Will Change the World," and around 900 people attended. Soka Gakkai youth members from Hiroshima and Okinawa also participated in the event. more…

Okinawa Student Survey Shows Need for Awareness-raising Activities | July 26, 2011
A survey to gauge awareness of the Battle of Okinawa amongst students on the island was conducted by the Soka Gakkai Okinawa Student Peace Committee during June 2011. The Battle of Okinawa was fought in 1945 and was the only land battle in Japan during World War II. The survey received 774 responses and included responses from students attending Ryukyu University and Okinawa International University. The committee also conducted a similar survey in 2010. more…

On July 24, Soka Gakkai youth members in Hiroshima held the Hiroshima Youth Peace Meeting at the Soka Gakkai Hiroshima Ikeda Peace Hall. They also hosted the 145th in a series of lectures titled "Lectures on Hiroshima" at the same venue. Sunao Tsuboi, one of the chairs of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-bomb Sufferers Organization, shared his experience as a hibakusha and his determination to work for abolishing nuclear weapons. From June 21-23, the SGI antinuclear weapons exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" (THS) was held at the SMJK Yu Hua school in Kajang, Malaysia. The exhibition was held in support of ICAN's Nuclear Abolition Day, a global day of action calling for a treaty to outlaw and eliminate all nuclear weapons commemorated annually on June 25. Exhibition and Events Calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons Held in Florence | May 23, 2011
On March 26 a showing of the Italian version of the antinuclear multimedia exhibition, "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" (THS), opened at Le Pagliere, a historical attraction in Florence. Part of SGI Italy's antinuclear campaign titled "Senzatomica" ("Without Nuclear"), the exhibition was cosponsored by several organizations including the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND) and International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). more…

SGI Exhibition and Youth Forum on Nuclear Disarmament Held at Roehampton University in London | March 3, 2011
Roehampton University's Human Rights Society and SGI-UK Youth Peace Committee collaborated to respond to the university's request to host the SGI anti-nuclear weapons exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" (THS). The exhibition was open to the public from January 22-24, 2011 and attracted about four hundred visitors.
