I met a resident in a nursing home a while back. He had Parkinsons. His name was Glen. I took the time to look beyond his disease and listen, really listen to what he wanted to say. Glen told me he was a Nuclear Scientist in years gone by. He was in the business of creating bombs. After spending a decade dedicated to this work he walked away from it, not able to rationalize away his guilt anymore. The following 40 years he studied philosophy, seeking answers, seeking redemption. He felt Buddhism most agreed with his sensibilities. Then he bumped into me, a living and breathing Buddhist! Quickly he joined SGI. Now, a new journey had begun for my dear friend. He passed away two months later. His wife later told me he had said that becoming an SGI Buddhist, although it would be for only a short while in this lifetime, gave him such great satisfaction. He had found what he was searching for for so long. Nuclear Bombs hurt everyone, some have scars on the outside, some on the inside, but one thing for sure, everyone suffers.

My wife was working in the area of Russia near North Korea's most recent testing site (about 100 miles out). I work in an inner city public school and one of my students was shot to death last school year. I say abolish all weapons. Kill the will to kill.

Born just before Pearl Harbor into a family who supported WWII, I lost my uncle in 1944. Living and demonstrating against war all my life, I discovered my mentor in 1972. Now I'm part of Think Peace Take Action, SGI-USA Chicago's response to Daisaku Ikeda's commitment to Nuclear Abolition. Our third annual event will be Oct 10, 2009. AND our own President Obama is chairing the Nuclear Disarmament Committee for the UN this fall. THANK YOU for providing this opportunity!!!

I hope no one will die unneccessarily. Disagreements should be resolved through dialogues, not weapons.

I live in China teaching English to Foreign and Chinese students. In March 2009, I began teaching at a new Korean International jr. high and high school in Beijing. Little did I know the North Korea nuclear missile launch would happen during my stay. I tried to make copies of yahoo news on this subject for them to read. Most appreciated it, however there were also a number of students who either didn't care or felt that it was another attempt by North Korea to get money support from the South. One told me that his sister is in U.S. and he himself is in China so he "didn't care." Another student got really angry at me for trying to make this into study material for a report. I am not sure if this student was ashamed to speak about it because it is a crisis for his people or was just angry about this subject. I really hope young people could continue the effort of making Nuclear abolishment possible. Though I am sick of these students' comments, I should forward this new website to them in hope that they will get involved somehow.

The A-bomb survivors are getting old and we are trying to
compile their voices in the form of publication. Japan has what we called, "Peace Study" in school curriculum and take the youth to a Peace Tour to Hiroshima every August. Japan truly has a great mission to appeal to the world that nuclear weapons are only for the extinction of human race.

The creation of the nuclear bomb is the pinnacle of human destruction. Abolishing them is the pinnacle of human construction.

Anything I can do I will. As a human being, our humanity
cannot allow us to know these facts & not take action. The SGI gives me hope that one day everyone will do the same. Alex x
